The White House has declared war against Fox News. It seems that they print some stories that make the administration look bad. That’s not nice, but with several other wars unsettled, there is an easier way. The White House could just return to the First Amendment concept of Freedom of Speech, and let the people decide whether or not to believe Fox

Peace Prize When There Is No Peace

Our President, Barack Obama, has been named the Nobel Peace Prize winner for 2009. It may be true that he has exerted great effort in changing world conditions, but he has used questionable methods and there are no visible results yet.

Making this choice so soon in the President’s career exposes the political bias of the committee once again. Chris Wallace of Fox News Sunday says they gave him the prize for not being George Bush.

We can be proud that the committee honors an American President but it doesn’t have much meaning because their choices have just become political spin for the ultra liberal point of view.

Jeremiah and Ezekiel exposed the hypocrisy of those who say “Peace, peace” when there is no peace (Jeremiah 6:14; Ezekiel 13:10).

In the New Testament, the Apostle Paul explains details about the Rapture of the Church and the onset of the last days in 1 Thessalonians. He wrote:

For you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. While people are saying, "Peace and safety," destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.

Hate Crimes Bill: Who Is The Hater?

Woe to those who call evil good and good evil.

The Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2009 (HR 1913) has been passed by the House of Representatives. A Senate version needs to be harmonized with the House bill. A vote on the resulting bill is imminent.

The law in question only targets those who commit violence against people because of their actual or perceived race, color, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability.

We agree that no one should advocate or defend violence against people because they are different, or even because they are perceived as sinners. Love and grace are at the very heart of true Christian belief. But Christians don’t have the right to excuse what God calls a sin. When a person sins a Christian should confront the behavior and encourage the person to repent and change his conduct. We accept this responsibility about lying, cheating, anger, adultery, and many other behaviors. It is the loving thing to do.

Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted. Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.
- Galatians 6:1-2

Now, about the proposed law: if it is just about violence, why is it needed? There are already laws that address violence. The real problem is that this law creates a specially protected class of people, and can be coupled with conspiracy laws so that even if a person peaceably voices agreement with the Bible about the sinfulness of homosexuality, he or she might be blamed for someone else’s violent activities.

Christians have been persecuted in all ages for their beliefs. Most of our forefathers came from Europe to escape persecution. Jesus said that persecution will become even worse during the Tribulation (Matthew 24:9-10; Mark 13:9-13). Adoption of this law might hasten the fulfillment of this prophecy.

Antichrist and Beheading

Prophecy students have always known that Antichrist will use beheading as the punishment for those who will not worship him and receive the “Mark of the Beast.”

And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony for Jesus and because of the word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or his image and had not received his mark on their foreheads or their hands.
- Revelation 20:4

Recently we have benefited from new insights from a former Palestinian terrorist, Walid Shoebat and his co-author, Joel Richardson. They show that the expected Islamic messiah, the Mahdi, could be the same as the biblical Antichrist. Islam has its own prophecies. Many of them were taken from our own Bible and twisted to fit their world view.

Shoebat and Richardson think that the final evil world empire predicted in Daniel 2 will be Islamic instead of European. They base this partly on the idea that Antichrist will use beheading, which they say is normal for Islam, but not for Europe.

Today European countries are opposed to any form of capital punishment. But here are two facts to consider: beheading was once common in Europe, and the Muslim population of Europe is rapidly climbing, while the native population is declining.

Until they abolished capital punishment only a few decades ago, both France and Germany employed beheading. Just over a century ago Scandinavian countries employed beheading, and it was also practiced in England both in ancient times and during the Middle Ages.

Another relevant fact is the changing culture of Europe. Muslim population growth is astronomical there, already causing riots and separatist movements in many European countries and the acceptance of Islamic law (Sharia) in some places. So, the final evil world empire may not be a question of Europe or Islam. It just might be a combination of both.

Why Hasn't Jesus Come Yet?

Sometimes, after a big event that awakens our interest in prophecy, people are very excited about the return of Jesus to take believers out of this world. It happened in the ‘50’s after Israel had become a nation against all odds, and in direct fulfillment of the predictions of Ezekiel chapters 36 and 37.

It happened again in the ‘70’s when Calvary Chapel led the way in the “Jesus People” movement from the hippie culture to mature Christianity. We remember the bumper stickers of that era that said “In case of Rapture, this car will be unmanned!”

Once again, interest was high from the beginning of the new millennium until a few months after the 9/11 attacks in New York and Washington D.C.

Unfortunately, as time goes on, and Jesus has not yet returned, many people lose interest in prophecy. They often ask one another, “Why hasn’t Jesus come yet?”

The Apostle Peter addressed this same question in the First Century. Christians from every age have had this “blessed hope” (Titus 2:13), and some have become skeptical. He wrote:

First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. They will say, "Where is this 'coming' he promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation."
-2 Peter 3:3-4 (NIV)

Peter reminded his readers about a similar situation thousands of years earlier, in the days of Noah.

But they deliberately forget that long ago by God's word the heavens existed and the earth was formed out of water and by water. By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.
2 Peter 3:5-7

Noah had spent about 100 years building the Ark, and all that time he was a “preacher of righteousness” calling his generation to repentance (2 Peter 2:5). But the longer the project took, the more disinterested the people became.

Peter then explained that we can never know God’s timing, but we can be sure He will keep his promise as He always has! After all, the Lord is showing His goodness to wait until the very last person who would believe has had that opportunity.

But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
2 Peter 3:8-9

Personally, I am just as excited about the Rapture as I was when I first learned about it as a teenager. We can’t know the date He will return, but one thing is certain: It is a lot closer now than it was when we first believed!

Magog Gang on the Streets of New York

Forget about the normal home-grown threat of street gangs. Thanks to the United Nations’ annual plenary meeting, international hoodlums have gathered to shout insults to one another and call for action by an organization that is famous for too many promises and too little progress.

One gang is making more noise than the rest. Let’s call it the “Magog Gang,” because the three key players of Ezekiel 38 and 39 are all causing trouble right now on the streets of New York.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev is spreading the misconception that Israel will not defend itself against Iran’s growing nuclear threat. Israeli authorities still insist that all options, including a preemptive strike against Iran’s nuclear facilities, are still on the table.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran, still spewing hateful threats to wipe Israel off the map, denying that the holocaust ever happened, and calling the U.S. “The Great Satan,” has been barred from any decent place to stay in New York.

Moammar Gaddafi of Libya is also persona non grata in the United States for a long history of encouraging terrorism. Just last month he insulted all peace-loving people by his warm reception of al-Megrahi, the Libyan imprisoned in Scotland for the 1988 Lockerbie bombing.

But at least the three of them have each other’s backs in this gang warfare. Russia supplies the weapons and protection. The other two do most of the dirty work.

With one eye on the Bible, and the other on the Internet news feeds, I can’t help but wonder how much time is left before this great war of Gog and Magog will begin. The prevailing view among Bible prophecy students is that Magog is Russia. Her key allies are Persia (Iran) and Put (Libya). Together with other Islamic allies, they will attack Israel at a time of peace. So far, Israel has never enjoyed a peace treaty with her neighbors, but that is another strong possibility in the coming days.
